Flowers and weddings always go hand in hand, so it’s not surprising that floral wedding invitations are such a popular choice for engaged couples.
Flowers have been a pivotal part of weddings since Ancient Rome, where brides carried fragrant bouquets of herbs and wore floral garlands in an attempt to ward off bad luck and evil spirits. Wedding flowers were also thought to symbolise fidelity and hopeful new beginnings.
In the Victorian era, the wedding flowers became a lot more about the aesthetics and brides were also very conscious of the symbolism of the flowers that were used in their bouquets.
Today, couples tend to choose their flowers based on time of year, colour palette, theme and of course personal taste.
If you’re wanting to include a floral design on your wedding invitations, you may want to feature them in a big way, or just include a subtle hint like a crest or motif. I thought I’d share some of my favourite floral invitation designs, to hopefully give you some inspiration.
All of the designs feature watercolour flowers that I’ve hand-painted, then scanned and edited digitally before creating a layout, adding text and reproducing in print.
FLORAL INVITATIONS FOR A SPRING WEDDING
Bursting with pastel shades of peach, cream and fresh greens, this design sings of all things spring. The invitation features some of my favourite seasonal flowers such as ranunculus and white anemones, along with classic roses and foliage, all painted in watercolour to give a soft, romantic look.
FLORAL INVITATIONS FOR A WILDFLOWER WEDDING
If you’re looking for something that’s a bit more delicate, this design could be for you. Framed with dainty watercolour florals and greenery, this invitation suite features a mix of wildflowers and garden flowers with a range of colours and textures. The red poppies are definitely the star and are complemented by pale peach roses and white anemones along with a mix of greenery.
FLORAL INVITATIONS FOR AN ELEGANT WHITE WEDDING
Featuring a delicate watercolour wreath, this design is perfect for couples looking for a more elegant floral invitation suite. The creamy white florals are inspired by butterfly ranunculus, making the design perfect for a spring wedding but I honestly think this versatile design can work well for weddings all year round.
FLORAL INVITATIONS FOR A SUMMERY YELLOW WEDDING
Nothing says summer quite like yellow. I personally love a pop of yellow in a wedding but I know it’s one of those colours that you either love or hate. This design features a fresh colour palette with watercolour daisies and pansies paired with sweeping modern calligraphy to add a romantic feel. The yellow in this suite is quite subtle, so it could be the perfect way to brighten up your summer wedding stationery.
FLORAL INVITATIONS FOR A BRIGHT AND COLOURFUL SUMMER WEDDING
If you want a more subtle nod to your wedding flowers, without making them a large visual feature on your invitations, a crest or small motif could be a great way to do this. This bespoke crest offers a sneak peek of the couple’s wedding flowers and encompasses their bright and colourful palette in a refined way. The pops of coral, yellow, peach and pink are perfect for a fresh summer wedding.
Hopefully I’ve given you some food for thought when it comes to different ways you can feature florals in your wedding invitations and hopefully give you some inspiration too.
If you’re interested in having any of the above designs for your wedding invitations, all of them are available as shown (you can enquire here), or can be fully customised to match your wedding flowers and colour palette if you’re looking for something a little more bespoke.
