Choosing the details for your wedding can be super overwhelming at times. There’s so much inspiration online and so many options available, it must be really hard to pinpoint exactly what colour scheme you want to follow or what florals you want to have etc…
Your wedding stationery will probably be one of the first of the details that you’ll plan and properly organise. There’s often quite a bit of pressure to have your colours and ‘theme’ confirmed by the time it comes to ordering your invitations but if you haven’t, opting for a more classic, minimal design for your stationery can save you a whole lot of stress.
Over the past few years, I’ve definitely noticed an increase in more minimalist weddings, with a focus on fewer, more carefully considered details above the ‘more is more’ approach with all the frills and fuss.
Typically, minimalist invitations are thought of as being very modern and trend-led with little to no illustrative elements. And while that’s a style I love and admire, I can never resist including some sort of illustration within my designs.
So if you’re looking for an understated, elegant invitation with a hint of illustration, one of these designs might be for you.
MINIMAL INVITATIONS FOR A DESTINATION WEDDING
If you’re having a destination wedding, you may want to give a subtle nod to the location in your stationery design. This invitation from my Penelope collection features delicate hand-drawn olive branches, perfect for couples getting married in Mediterranean countries like Italy or Spain who are wanting a minimal and modern design.
MINIMAL INVITATIONS FEATURING A VENUE ILLUSTRATION
If you’re looking to add a personal touch to your wedding invitations but are dreaming of a classic, understated design then my Emma collection could be perfect for you. The invitation features a delicate venue drawing, which has been hand-drawn in pen and ink before being scanned in and carefully edited digitally. The illustration is paired with a classic serif font and monochrome colour palette to give it a more minimalist look. The design can of course be customised to feature your own wedding venue, to give your guests the ultimate sneak peek of your day.
MINIMAL INVITATIONS FOR A WINTER WEDDING
When you’re getting married in winter, the options are certainly more limited when it comes to stationery, with most designs veering towards the festive theme (especially if you’re getting married in December). This invitation from my Elizabeth collection features hints of hand-drawn lunaria seeds and winter branches, highlighting the beauty of the stripped back foliage you find during the colder months of the year. The neutral colour palette is perfect if you haven’t pinned down your colour scheme yet but can be customised if you do have a clear idea of your colours.
MINIMAL INVITATIONS FOR A BOTANICAL WEDDING
Lots of wedding trends come and go but one that’s stood the test of time is the botanical wedding. Foliage and greenery are still so popular within the wedding world and I can understand why. They really do add something special to a wedding set up, introducing a whole host of textures and tones and better yet, they’re perfect for weddings all year round. If you’re having a botanical inspired wedding and want to give a subtle nod to that on your invitations, then my Estella collection could be perfect for you. The minimal invitation design features a single watercolour branch, which is paired with a timeless serif font.
MINIMAL CALLIGRAPHY INVITATIONS
Calligraphy isn’t always synonymous with minimalism but my Elinor design might just prove the naysayers wrong. This classic invitation design is perfect for couples looking for stationery that is understated, yet decorative. The main feature of the design is the calligraphy script (that I do by hand & digitise), which is paired with an elegant serif font. There are no illustrative elements featured on the invitation design but if you’re wanting to add something special, a venue illustration can be featured on the details card.
Hopefully I’ve given you some ideas for your own minimal wedding invitations. If you’re still feeling a little stuck, I find that the key is to focus on one special detail you’d like to feature (e.g. olive branches) and start your search from there.
